For parents
Parents play a central role in the Confirmation process at Glen Mar Church. Parent involvement has proved invaluable for purposes of bonding with their youth and being present to watch firsthand as their child begins to reach a very important milestone in faith. With these things in mind we expect parents to meet the following requirements:
- Attend a minimum of 7 of the weekly class sessions with your youth.
- Encourage, support and foster the completion of your youth's outside confirmation assignments.
- During the course of the class complete the TalkPoints workbook with your child.
- Participate in Class Field Trip and Service Project weekends.
- Attend Orientation Session and stole making with a Friend-in-Faith during Final Retreat.
- Attend Dinner on Friday, May 9th and participate in the Service of Confirmation on Sunday, May 11th.
- Cover Confirmation cost of $110.00/youth.
For Friends-In-Faith
In an effort to provide opportunities for youth/adult interaction in the Confirmation process, each student will establish a relationship with an adult member of Glen Mar, other than a parent of a current Confirmation Student. This person will serve as a guide, coach, mentor, advisor and friend. The Friend-in-Faith will:
- Contact the youth once a week to talk about class progress.
- Attend a Friend-in-Faith Orientation Session.
- Pray regularly for the youth.
- During the course of the class complete the Talk Points workbook with the youth.
- Invite the youth to a special outing of some kind.
- Attend a minimum of 3 class sessions with the youth.
- Be available to fill-in for parent(s) should a situation arise that prevents the parent(s) from being there.
- Participate with the youth in an individual service project.
- Participate in stole-making with parents during final retreat.
- Attend the Confirmation Dinner on Friday, May 9th, and Service of Confirmation on Sunday, May 11th.
For Youth
We believe that to consider a life commitment to Jesus Christ, receive adequate preparation for Church membership, and be a real part of the class each youth needs to meet the following expectation:
- Attend the weekly class sessions. Excuses absences include illness and possibly other situations discussed with youth minister.
- Attend a minimum of 21 worship services, Sunday School and youth groups combined, with a least five in each category. When you attend worship at Glen Mar be sure to sign the attendance registration book and mark CONFIRMATION. Worship in another congregation is acceptable as long as you bring a copy of the bulletin from that service or some verification from the church that you were there.
- Participate in the class field trip.
- Participate in one(1) individual Mission Project with your Friend-in-Faith. Suggestions will be given to you.
- Participate in the service project Weekend (Feb. 22-23)
- Attend the opening Orientation Session and Final Retreat.
- Complete all homework, written assignments and Memory Work.
- Relate to a Friend-in-Faith beginning in January 2006, and throughout the Confirmation process.
- Be actively involved in each of the three ministry segments of the parish - Worship, Discipleship, and Caring and Mission. Ideas will be shared at the Orientation Session and in class.
- Attend the Confirmation Dinner, Friday, May 9th and Service of Confirmation on Sunday, May 11th.
